Lake EMS Communications Center

The Lake Emergency Medical Services Communications Center is located in the new Emergency Communications and Operations Center in Tavares, Florida. The multi-function, 28,495 square foot building has a co-located 911 call center with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. The building also has an Emergency Operations Center on the second floor at 425 West Alfred Street.

The Lake EMS Communications Center has a staff of 33 full time Telecommunicators and five who work a part-time schedule. In addition to providing medical dispatch services for our own organization, the Center also provides dispatch for eleven Fire Departments and the Health Department in Lake County.

Lake EMS is one of eighteen Communications Centers nationwide that is recognized as a multi-disciplined Accredited Center of Excellence. In 2009, Lake EMS received Accreditation for Medical Dispatching and again in 2012 for Fire Dispatching. This high distinction provides our staff with a consistent and measurable level of service to the agencies and citizens we serve.

All Telecommunicators are State Certified in compliance with requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Health. In addition, our training program has been approved by the Department of Health which identifies us as an approved training site to teach the Public Safety Telecommunications Curriculum.

In fiscal year 2011-2012 the Communications Center dispatched 42,745 incidents to the Lake ALS EMS units and a total of 56,722 incidents to Fire agencies. These incidents created a total of 2,010,441 radio transmissions. In addition to dispatching emergency calls from our Command Center, our staff also monitors storm related incidents from the State Warning Point and maintains the EMSystem for our local hospitals in a five Region area.

Lake County is comprised of 1,156 square miles of urban, suburban and rural landscape with a population of approximately 300,000. The Lake EMS Communications Center is the only secondary PSAP in Lake County.

The professionals in our Communications Center continue to work very hard to provide superior service and consistently show how serious they take our motto: “In Rhythm with the Community!”
