Lake Emergency Medical Services Executive Director Jerry Smith received high marks from the Lake EMS board of directors.
Board members commended Smith for his strong leadership and processes put in place to improve the organization.
Smith added two ambulances: one in Grand Island and the other in Clermont at the beginning of 2016 to meet the demand for services. At the request of the board, he also added an ambulance back in Astor this past spring.
In addition, Smith said he instituted a specific hiring plan so in the event he has open positions he is able to hire individuals quickly and train them; he also said he improved training by adding two new simulation mannequins.
