True North Award – February 2018

Marco Gallardo, Telecommunicator I, received the True North Award at the Lake EMS Board meeting on 13 February 2018. Mr. Gallardo went above and beyond what his normal job duties require of him on two separate occasions.

Lake EMS is Center of Excellence

After completing an intensive 20-step process to reaccredit as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE), Lake Emergency Medical Services, Inc., in Mount Dora, has a received a distinction that places it among the highest-performing EMS agencies in the world. The communication center is the 125th emergency dispatch center in the world to receive International Academies of Emergency Dispatch.

UF Health recognizes Lake EMS

At the Lake EMS Board of Directors meeting on 19 September 2017, J. Adrian Tyndall, MD, MPH, Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine and Chief of Emergency Services, UF Health recognized Lake EMS and presented a plaque for their excellent service and leadership in participation of the mock mass casualty event held on 21 June 2017. Accepting the award were Lake EMS Executive Director, Jerry Smith, Medical Director Desmond Fitzpatrick, MD, and Associate Medical Director Jason Jones, MD.

Operation Blue Roof for Lake County

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA and the Florida Division of Emergency Management is offering Operation Blue Roof to Lake County residents. Operation Blue Roof provides a temporary covering of blue plastic sheeting to help reduce further damage to property until permanent repairs can be made. The tarp is installed using strips of wood that are secured to the roof with nails or screws. This program is available at no cost to eligible primary homeowners in Lake County.

Operation Blue Roof is at Lake EMS, 2761 W. Old U.S. Hwy 441, Mount Dora, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Wednesday, 27 September through Monday, 2 October 2017.

True North Awards – September 2017

Lake EMS Paramedic Luis Ramirez and EMT Jordan Patten receive the True North award at the Board Meeting on 19 September 2017.

Paramedic Luis Ramirez and EMT Jordan Patten were responding to a call on July 29, 2017. In route to the call, a vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with the crews unit. The crew proceeded to get out of their ambulance, put on their gear, and help the patients in the other vehicle. Our mission at Lake EMS is to serve our communities by providing exceptional patient care and extraordinary customer service through compassion, knowledge, clinical sophistication and the integrity of our organization. Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Patten embody the Lake EMS mission completely, and that is why they received the True North Award.
