The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services is recognizing the recipients of the 2012 Excellence in EMS Awards. This marks the twenty-second year that DOH’s Bureau of EMS is honoring outstanding Florida EMS organizations and individuals who make a positive impact on local EMS and communities throughout the state. The 2012 statewide EMS awards are sponsored by the Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center.
Dr. Paul Banerjee of Lake Emergency Medical Services will receive the Raymond H. Alexander, MD, EMS Medical Director of the Year Award. This award honors a physician who serves as a medical director for a Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support or Air Service. The winner must demonstrate excellence in the areas of quality assurance/improvement and medical control, in addition to the promotion and utilization of new medical trends and technologies.
Dr. Banerjee has worked in the field of emergency medicine for over 14 years and has gained recognition for implementing innovative protocols, ensuring that quality standards of excellence are maintained in the field, and promoting new medical trends and technologies.
As executive director Jim Judge explained, “Since becoming Lake EMS’ medical director in 2007, Dr. Banerjee has overhauled the agency’s medical protocols and has played a key role in training the 700 paramedics and EMTs working under his direction in Lake County. He leads by example, teaching his crews the theories and reasoning behind the cutting edge protocols.”
Dr. Banerjee is a nationally recognized speaker presenting his innovative programs and protocols such as induced hypothermia, cardiac arrest care, and STEMI care at conferences and medical directors’ meetings. Most recently, Dr. Banerjee presented at the Annual Stroke Summit in Chicago, IL and is slated to provide programming based on Lake County’s successful protocols and outcomes at the EMS World Conference in New Orleans, LA.
Awards will be presented on 18 July 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando in conjunction with the State EMS Advisory Council meetings and the EMLRCs 38th Annual Clinical Conference on Emergency Medical Services.
